Building healthy habits

It's the little things that count

Variety of bread types

Your health is built from lots of little building blocks. They all count.

People sometimes tell me they're worried I'll say everything they're doing is wrong.

In reality, that's rarely the case.

Most people are already doing many things well. We simply look for a few small adjustments that fit into everyday life. It might be adding some seeds to your yoghurt, including a source of protein at breakfast, or planning a snack so you're not starving by 3 pm.

These changes might seem small, but that's exactly the point.

Small changes are more likely to fit into your everyday life. And when something fits your routine, you're more likely to keep doing it. Over time, those small actions become habits - and those habits are what create lasting change.

Think of your health like a LEGO house. It isn't built from one giant block; it's built from lots of individual pieces working together. Every piece has a role to play, and every small change counts.

If you've been putting off seeing a nutritionist because you're worried you'll be expected to overhaul your entire diet, I hope this reassures you. My approach is practical, personalised and designed to fit your life.

To help you get started, here's one simple idea you can try this week.

Everyday Seed Mix

Ingredients

  • Linseeds (flaxseeds)

  • Pepitas

  • Sesame seeds

  • Sunflower seeds (optional)

  • Chia seeds (optional)

Method Combine your favourite seeds in a jar or container. Lightly crush or roughly chop the larger seeds (such as linseeds and pepitas) to improve digestibility.

Sprinkle over:

  • Yoghurt

  • Salads

  • Avocado on toast

  • Porridge

  • Smoothie bowls

Tip: Store in an airtight container in the fridge to help keep the healthy oils fresh.
